Fiona Pompey

Fiona Pompey

Fiona Pompey was born in Fregon in 1975 and has lived in Fregon all her life. She started painting in the early 2000s and her style is characterised by
a fresh bold style and simple yet carefully meditated abstraction.
Fiona’s work often details the sweeping, undulated sand-hills of the surrounding desert country. Her paintings draw influence from her late Mother, Kunmanara (Tali Tali) Pompey, who is well known for her powerful desert paintings.

Fiona captures the expansive, almost hypnotic repetition of the sandhill landscape through her careful choice of semi-toned colours and layering. The
small, rounded shapes reflect the habitat of shrubs, trees and bushes. These grow on the sides and at the base of the sand-hill where the water collects.
They provide a valuable source of many food bearing grasses and shrubs.
