Charmaine Pwerle

Charmaine Pwerle is the daughter of artist Barbara Weir and granddaughter of Minnie Pwerle (dec).

Charmaine was born in Alice Springs in 1975 and currently lives in Alice Springs with her children and partner. She was educated in Alice Springs and Adelaide and upon finishing her schooling she returned to Utopia in 1992 and worked for Urapuntja Council as the junior administration assistant. During this time Charmaine lived with her mother Barbara Weir and grandparents Minnie Pwerle and Motorcar Jim at Soakage Bore – an outstation on Utopia Station.

During her years at Utopia she has learnt her culture and performed in ceremonies, and sacred stories have been passed on to her from her grandmothers. Charmaine has always been surrounded by artists including Emily Kngwarreye, Gloria Petyarre, her mother Barbara Weir and grandmother Minnie Pwerle.
